COVID-19 was a crisis like no other. There was no playbook and, as it has been proved, no single response. The most successful responses have come down to a single vision, unity of purpose and collective action.
Tongan Health Society, New Zealand’s only ethnic-specific health provider, provided a singularly successful response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The group provided an array of COVID-19 services designed to meet the needs of the Tongan community, including standing up weekly pop-up vaccination events across Tāmaki Makaurau from September 2021 until December 3rd 2022.
Their passion, energy, commitment and resolve to protect members of the Tongan community was not only unparalleled in effort but importantly proved the value and importance of providing ethnic-specific health services for our community.
