Watercare Mobile Visitor Centre

The purpose of the Visitors Centre was to help Watercare staff engage with the communities along the route of the Central Interceptor tunnel.

Its principal roles were to explain why the tunnel was being built – to reduce wastewater spills into Auckland’s waterways – and keep people up to date with progress. For the record, the tunnel is 14.7 kilometres long and runs from Grey Lynn to Māngere.

Children, whānau and schools were the main audiences. The Visitors Centre needed to draw people in, convey a sense of inclusion and be visually appealing. Inside, was equally appealing, with lots of activities, including an  animated video, touchscreen games and a virtual reality experience.

The project graphics were based on place, activities and the environment, and not only wrapped the visitor unit, but were also applied to wide range of collateral and hardware that were part of the setting for the Visitors Centre.

The final result was a resource that presents the Central Interceptor story in a fun and interactive way.
